In the 1950s, the parish of St. George of Buttes Chaumont became too small. The population of the district has grown in particular with the slaughterhouses of La Villette. It was then the parishioners themselves who financed the construction of a new church at 80 rue de Meaux, closer to the Villette and in the midst of modern buildings housing a new population. The architect Denis Honegger made the plans for the new church. Work began in 1960 and mainly used concrete and glass. The church strikes with its ovoid shape, with a slightly sloping nave and its almost total stripping. As such, it is called the "crypt church", a small humorous note for this church that celebrates the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. The place of worship is marked by a concrete open tower, surmounted by a cross. Moreover, the modern stained glass windows that can be seen on the façade and in the baptistery are the work of the artist Yoki Aebischer. They were set up in 1962. During the day, they shine brightly and colorfully. The church was inaugurated by the archbishop of Paris on September 13, 2015.
